Through My Eyes

Timing was everything.

When you’re getting dumped by a homeless guy, you know something’s wrong.

Ha, this is great!  Girl Game

Commentary: Having been single and in relationships during my 3 years in this city, I can definitely agree with what Valencia, one of the women in the above article, had to say about the dating arena – “Here in San Francisco, people are so unclear about what they want.”  I confess; I’m guilty of having been ambiguous myself.  I think a lot of men and women in this city want the best of both worlds.  They want to be able to go out one night and feel that certain chemistry with a stranger (and be allowed to act on it), but they also want to spend the next night watching a favorite HBO show cuddling up to someone they could endure pillow talk with.  The thing is, you have to choose which is more important to you (especially considering whether you are prepared to be committed to one person or if you have the time to be) – the spontaneity or possibility of meeting someone new or sharing your favorite activities with a consistent companion.  SF, as a city, is not to blame.  No area code (or zip code) makes you want to be single or makes you want to be in a committed relationship.  It’s the situation you want to be in.  It’s the timing and where you stand in your life right now.  I guess it’s time to stop pointing fingers and start owning up to our actions and decisions.
